What is freeread?
The internet, once a space for free and open knowledge, is slowly losing its light. Many of the internet's valuable resources, insightful articles, media and even world news are now locked behind paywalls. For the average person, staying informed has become a costly challenge with contents scattered across countless subscription services. This fragmentation is not only frustrating to users, but it also threatens the internet's founding promise of democratic access to information.

As believers in a freer internet, We completely understand that writers, bloggers, journalists and creators provide real value and deserve to be rewarded for their work. Their works are the bedrock of our informed society. Yet, the current monetization model feels broken. Surely there's room for a more balanced approach, a hybrid system where readers could choose between viewing ads or paying for an ad-free experience.
For those of us in developing/3rd world countries, international payment systems add yet another layer of frustration. In our case, it’s not just about affordability, it’s also about accessibility. Valuable content is often out of reach because there's so much friction with cross border payments.
freeread aims to provide its users a glimpse at what a "paywall-less" internet could be.
How & Why?
You know the saying, "love your neighbor as yourself" and "sharing is caring" ? Well, let's say this is one of such example on the internet. We pay to access Medium articles and share them with all of you, our internet friends and family.
How it all works behind the scenes? Well, that’s our little secret, better left unsaid to avoid any unnecessary trouble just yet. But we think this is in a grey area as regards legality (hehehe!).
However, we are doing this for whoever, wherever on the surface of the earth would find this valuable.
What is the future like?
Right now, we have no idea. This is just an early development to see the direction this goes in. However if there is a spike or uptick in usage, we might end up paying more attention.
